Gio Gonzalez bounced back from a 3 1/3 inning outing against the Kansas City Royals with seven scoreless innings of work against the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals pounded Fish pitching for a 9-0 win and a sweep of the three-game set.

Rain interrupted tonight's game in the second inning, knocking both starters out. The Nationals and Marlins were tied at 3-3 after six and a half when Ian Desmond hit an RBI single to left to score Denard Span for a 4-3 lead that held up.

The Washington Nationals blew a 6-1 lead, but former Chicago Cubs' outfielder Scott Hairston came back to haunt the Cubbies, hitting a three-run blast onto Waveland Ave in the seventh to give the Nats a 9-6 lead in what ended up an 11-6 win.

Nationals 4-2 Over Cubs: Haren Strong In Wrigley

The Washington Nationals took a 1-0 lead early on an RBI double by Ryan Zimmerman, and the Nats' third baseman scored the go-ahead run in the sixth after the Chicago Cubs tied it. Dan Haren gave up just one run on a home run and the Nats won 4-2.

Jordan Zimmermann gave up three HRs and eight runs total in five innings of work as the Chicago Cubs cruised to a 11-1 win in the first game of the Washington Nationals' four-game visit to Wrigley Field. With the loss, the Nats dropped to 60-64.

2-1 Braves: Nationals Drop 2 of 3 In Turner Field

The Washington Nationals wasted opportunities early in the series finale with the Atlanta Braves in Turner Field and in spite of a strong outing by Gio Gonzalez, the Nats dropped two of three with the NL East's first place team, falling to 60-63.

Nationals' right-hander Dan Haren gave up just one run in six innings of work and a three-run third inning gave the Nats a 3-1 lead that lasted until there were two outs in the top of the ninth when Hector Sanchez hit a three-run HR, 4-3 Giants.
