Today, the Washington Nationals signed the man Jim Bowden believes could be the key to this year's draft, fourth round selection Justin Maxwell. As Baseball America's draft-day analysis noted, injuries cut into Maxwell's status. Thus, it's not mere puffery when Nats' scouting director Dana Brown praises Maxwell's skills and makeup:
"Justin's rare combination of speed and power reflect first-round talent," said Brown. "But we are just as thrilled to add a person of Justin's quality to the organization, both on and off the field."
Brian at Nationals Farm Authority wonders where Maxwell will begin his professional career next season. Brian hopes it is High-A Potomac, and I have to think that sounds reasonable.
