If left-center in RFK Stadium is where home runs go to die, then left field in Houston's Minute Maid Park is where fly balls go to be reborn as homers. The Nationals pack their bags and head to Houston to start a four game set.
The two teams met for a three game series in RFK this past July with the Nationals taking two of three from the visiting Astros. Tonight it's:
Tim Redding (2-3, 2.88 ERA) vs Jason Jennings (2-8, 6.16 ERA).
Redding actually suffered the one Nationals loss of three games played between the two in July, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 HR's and 3 walks in a 4-2 Astros win, which was Redding's only MLB start against the Houston franchise.
Jennings hasn't matched up with the Nationals yet this season, but in his career he's faced the franchise 8 times, going (2-4) while allowing 49 hits, 31 runs, 4 homers, and 21 walks in 42.1 IP.
Should be some offense. Come inside out of the rain, they've got a retractable roof here...and with the left field wall, even you can legitimately feel that you could go yard here in Houston.
Feel free to comment as the game goes along, i'll check in and try to respond during play, and check back for a Full Game Report after the action...
