The Finale of the four game series in Minute Maid Park features:
John "Trouble" Lannan (1-2, 3.94) vs Juan Gutierrez (0-0, 4.50)
Houston pitchers Woody Williams, Chad Qualls and Brad Lidge combined to hold off Washington last night and take the Astros first game of the series 3-2, after dropping two straight to the visiting Nationals.
Tonight, two rookie hurlers match up as left-hander John Lannan, in his fifth Major League start, faces the Astros righty Juan Gutierrez, who has two relief appearances in the Majors in the last week, but now makes his first start.
Lannan, (1-2) in 5 appearances, is (0-1) in three road starts in his short time up, pitching 18.1 innings combined in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Arizona, and allowing 18 hits, 7 runs, 1 HR, and 9 walks, with a 3.94 ERA. Gutierrez has two relief appearances, including one in the first game of this series, pitching 2.0 innings overall, giving up two hits, one run, one walk, and striking out to post a 4.50 ERA so far.
The Nationals look to take three of four, the Astros look for the split. Washington has scored 20 runs in three games at Minute Maid Park, and the Nationals look to rebound after looking completely baffled offensively against the veteran right-hander Woody Williams. Count on more scoring...
As is becoming the norm, I'll check in to see if anyone's watching...I know someone's got to be...
