Game one of three in Coors Field, Denver, Colorado features:
Shawn Hill (3-3, 2.43) vs Jeff Francis (13-6, 4.38)
The Washington Nationals took three of four on the road in Houston to start a ten game road trip that now takes them to Colorado for the weekend before playing three in LA Monday through Wednesday next week.
Nationals right-handed sinker specialist Shawn Hill faces Rockies lefty Jeff Francis in the Mile High air of Coors Field. Hill has never faced Colorado, but the twenty-six year old is (2-1) in five starts on the road this season, having allowed 11 runs on 26 hits and 2 home runs for a 2.22 ERA in 28.1 inning pitched.
Jeff Francis has two starts against Washington in his three year MLB career, going (1-0) in 10.2 innings pitched during which he surrendered 14 hits, 8 runs, 3 walks and 1 home run, while striking out five for a 6.75 ERA.
The high altitude in Colorado is notoriously cruel to pitchers, so just like Minute Maid Park in Houston, expect some scoring tonight directly related to the field of play.
Ryan Zimmerman has enjoyed some success against Jeff Francis in each of their short careers. Zimmerman's 4 for 6 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI for a .667 average against the Rockies lefty. Austin Kearns is 3 for 8 against Francis with 1 HR. 1 of Nook Logan's 2 career HR's is off Francis.
The Nationals look to continue their winning ways on the road before heading home and starting the last month of the 2007 season. The Nationals are finally out of the NL East basement. The fourth place NL East team against the fourth place team in the West.
I'll check back to see if anyone's watching...
