And the SBN NL Cy Young goes to...

Here's how we voted here at federalbaseball.com...and by "we" I mean our beleaguered editor Winston Smith and I...

• - So in just 11 starts, CC Sabathia is able to earn three 1st place votes. Sabathia finished (11-2) with a 1.65 ERA in 17 NL starts, and overall he was 17-10, with a 2.70 ERA on the season...I heard a lot of talk about CC competing for the NL Cy Young, but when Tim Lincecum is (18-5) with a 2.62 ERA in 33 starts and he collects 265 K's, (59 more than the second place K-total), finishes 2nd in wins behind only Brandon Webb's 22, and pitches the third highest inning total, all for a Giants' team with a 68-94 record, then the 24-year old phenom has earned his first Cy Young.

• - Edinson Volquez gets on the list thanks to Winston Smith. (17-6) with a 3.21 ERA, the Reds' 24-year old right-hander struggled in September, winning just one of his last 5 starts, (1-1), after going 3-1 in June, 3-1 in July and 3-1 in August, 3-2 in May and 4-0 in April, and his ERA didn't climb over 3.00 until Volquez's last start in August.

• - If I were a Mets' fan, and watched the Mets' bullpen blow all of the Johan Santana starts that they did, I might actually vote for him for the Cy Young too...(ed. note - "I am just assuming here that one of the Met-bloggers voted for Santana. Could be wrong...") Santana finishes 2008 (16-7) with a 2.53 ERA in 34 starts.

• - Not one 1st place vote for the winningest pitcher in the NL? Sorry, Mr. Webb, maybe try to win 23 next season, and lower that ERA a bit from 3.30...Brandon Webb finished the '08 campaign (22-7) with a 3.30 ERA and 3 CG's, 1 a CGSO.

• - Is there anyone in the Nationals' organization you could see one day competing for the NL Cy Young? Anyone who could join the Nationals' organization this season...say on Draft Day...that could compete?

In case anyone cares...

American League 1st 2nd 3rd Points
Cliff Lee 13 5 - 80
Roy Halladay 5 10 1 56
Jon Lester - 1 5 8
Francisco Rodriguez - 1 2 5
Mike Mussina - 1 2 5
Daisuke Matsuzaka - - 4 4
Ervin Santana - - 2 2
Justin Duchscherer - - 1 1
Joe Nathan - - 1 1

• - Cliff Lee, I remember him. Who cares about the AL though...Lee, who was traded to Cleveland from Montreal, along with Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore and Lee Stevens in return for Bartolo Colon (who was (10-4) in 17 starts for the Expos) and Tim Drew (1-2 in 13 G for Montreal) back on June 27, 2002, finished 2008 (22-3) with a 2.54 ERA in 31 starts and 223.1 IP, with 4 CG's, 2 of the shutouts, 170 K's, 34 walks, and a 1.11 WHIP.

Tomorrow, Thursday 11/6/08 at 2:00 pm EST, it's the results of the voting for the SB Nation's '08 NL MVP Award...
