Austin Kearns shields his eyes with his glove as he cruises in to get under Chris Young’s pop up to right for the first out of the evening. DC right-hander Jason Bergmann gets a fly ball out from Stephen Drew, again to Kearns. Wily Mo Pena starts going back, but cuts in quickly to catch Orland Hudson’s line drive for the final out of the top of the first...Bottom of the inning, D-Backs’ righty Dan Haren starts Felipe Lopez with a low inside fastball for a strike, and then gets a groundout back to the mound he throws to Chad Tracy at first. Kory Casto goes down chasing. Cristian Guzman lines a two-out single to center. Austin Kearns swings over something that sinks for strike three to end the DC first. 

 

Jason Bergmann freezes Conor Jackson with a two-strike curve for a backwards K. Chad Tracy flies out off his fists, and Mark Reynolds swings through a high heater to end Bergmann’s second scoreless...DY grounds out to second. Jesus Flores grounds out to thi...Mark Reynolds soars the throw to first and Flores is safe and takes second. Haren gets WMP swinging over junk. Roger Bernadina takes strike three inside, though he doesn’ think so...AZ catcher Miguel Montero pops out to his counterpart right above home, AZ RF Alex Romero flies out to WMP. Dan Haren flies out to Bernadina in straight center. Three quick and scoreless for Bergmann...Haren gets his counterpart swinging weakly at strike three as Bergmann K’s. Lopez grounds out, Casto grounds out, 0-0 after three. 

 

Wily Mo Pena comes charging in to catch Chris Young’s fly out to left. Stephen Drew reaches on an infield single that Kory Casto throws into the dirt in a valiant attempt to make the play. Orlando Hudson fights off an inside pitch and drives it to left center for consecutive singles off Bergmann. Conor Jackson can’t figure out Bergmann’s breaking balls, and he ends up K’ing swinging. Chad Tracy pops out to Casto foul of third. Bergmann’s through four scoreless...Haren gets a ground ball to second from Cristian Guzman, but issues a one-out walk to Austin Kearns. Haren gets DY staring. Jesus Flores pushes Chris Young back to the track, where the AZ centerfielder catches the final out of the fourth. 0-0. Both sides go down in order in the fifth.

 

Top of the sixth. Bergmann goes to a full count with Haren, who lines to short where Guzman dives into the grass to make the grab. Wily Mo Pena sprints towards the gap and tracks down Chris Young’s line drive for the second out of the sixth. Stephen Drew doubles to center, and scores on the next at bat when Orlando Hudson drills a line drive over a ducking Bergmann and into center for a 1-0 D-Backs' lead...Felipe Lopez stiffens his legs to avoid an inside fastball that’s called strike three. Kory Casto flies out to deep center where Chris Young catches it on the track. Guzman chops a grounder to second where Hudson fields and throws to first to end the sixth. 

 

Chad Tracy sneaks a grounder under Felipe Lopez’s glove for a leadoff hit in the seventh. Bergmann walks Mark Reynolds to bring up Miguel Montero. Montero flies out to Pena in left. Alex Romero rips a single to right, Kearns comes up throwing as Tracy rounds third, but the ball gets by Flores, and the D-Backs lead by 2-0. Bergmann pops up the opposing pitcher, and then the leadoff batter to keep it close after seven at 2-0 AZ. Austin Kearns stares at a 2-2, 2-seamer. DY grounds out to Stephen Drew at short, and Jesus Flores flies out to left. Haren’s through seven scoreless. Lefty Charlie Manning takes over for Bergmann in the eighth. Stephen Drew grounds out to first. Orlando Hudson flies out to Kearns in right. Conor Jackson beats out Cristian Guzman’s running throw from behind second. Manning throws one by Flores, allowing Jackson to take second. Chad Tracy tries to check his swing, but Manning’s slider’s too enticing, 0-0 after seven and a half...Wily Mo Pena pulls a single through short, but Roger Bernadina grounds to second, Hudson, Drew, to Tracy, double play. Haren gets a fly ball to center from Paul Lo Duca to finish the eighth with a 2-0 Arizona lead. 

 

Jesus “Everyday” Colome gives up a long fly ball to Mark Reynolds that Wily Mo Pena catches in left with his back ot the wall. Miguel Montero takes a one-out walk. Alex Romero walks as well, allowing Dan Haren to lay down a sac bunt. Chris Young fouls strike three into Flores’ glove. Three outs to get two runs off of Haren...Felipe Lopez works the count full and takes ball four on a high fastball. Kory Casto singles through second to chase Haren in favor of closer Brandon Lyon, who’ll face Cristian Guzman. Guzman drives a one-hop single to left to load the bases for Kearns. Willie Harris runs for Casto, AK grounds through Reynolds at third, two runs score. 2-2 tie. DY flies out to short center. Jesus Flores swings over a low fastball for the second out. Wily Mo Pena grounds out to thir...Mark Reynolds drops it!! WMP safe at first, bases loaded. Roger Bernadina works the count full and fouls off a few before grounding out to second...Extras...

 

The Tallest Pitcher in MLB History, Jon Rauch will pitch the tenth. Stephen Drew swings over a two-strike curve. Orlando Hudson flies out to Pena in left. Conor Jackson hits an excuse-me single down the third base line. Chad Tracy doubles off the wall in left center, deep enough to score Jackson from first for a 3-2 D-Backs’ lead. Mark Reynolds doubles over Kearns’ head and off the out of town scoreboard, Tracy scores. 4-2 D-Backs. Miguel Montero singles through second to score Reynolds for a 5-2 AZ lead. Arizona righty Tony Pena gives up a leadoff double to recent recall Pete Orr, who lines to right. Felipe Lopez grounds out to third. Willie Harris grounds a single into center, scoring Orr from second. 5-3 AZ. Guzman? Line drive over shortstop Stephen Drew’s outstretched mitt. Austin Kearns drives the tying run with a double into the corner in left, Harris scores. Guzman beats the throw home, Kearns takes third. 5-5 ballgame. Kearns on third, Chad “DJ” Qualls walks DY to bring up Jesus Flores...WWJD? Flores grounds to third, and Reynolds throws home in time to get Kearns. Wily Mo Pena grounds out to second. It’s gonna take at least eleven.

 

Luis Ayala faces Augie Ojeda and hits him to start the eleventh. Chris Young gets a sac bunt down to advance Ojeda. Stephen Drew drills a line drive to left. Ojeda scores. 6-5 Snakes. Ayala walks Orlando Hudson. Conor Jackson singles to left but Stephen drew gets thrown out by Willie Harris. Chad Tracy singles in Hudson. 7-5 D-Backs after ten and a half...Chad Qualls gets ground ball out from Bernadina, Orr and Lopez to end a long loss. D-Backs take two of three in DC. 7-5 finals.
