Washington Nationals: AFL/DWL Update.

AFL:

Down 2-0 in the fifth inning, the Phoenix Desert Dogs hit four-straight two-out singles off D-Backs' pitching prospect Cesar Valdez, scoring two runs and chasing the Scottsdale Scorpions' reliever from Saturday's AFL matchup in Phoenix Municipal Stadium. With the score tied at 2-2, Valdez was replaced by another Arizona prospect, left-hander Tom Layne, who walked the Washington Nationals' shortstop of the future Danny Espinosa to load the bases for future DC first baseman Chris Marrero, whose 2-run single was responsible for the go-ahead and eventual winning run. Espinosa ends the game 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored, Marrero's 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI's. The only other player in the Nationals' system in action was right-hander Jeff Mandel, who gave up a one-out single and an RBI double to D-Backs' first baseman Brandon Allen and Giants' catching prospect Buster Posey, respectively, in the eighth, before retiring the Scorpions without further damage.
