While Scott Olsen Was Doing His Best And Johan Santana Was Dominating...
...San Diego State University starter and (hopefully) future ace of the Washington Nationals' staff, Stephen Strasburg, was starting at home in Tony Gwynn Stadium against the TCU Horned Frogs. SDSU claimed a 4-3 victory. Strasburg gave up more runs last night than he had in any previous start, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in 7.0 IP. The 20-year-old right-hander walked 1 and K'd 14 in SDSU's 4-3 win over the Horned Frogs, leaving Strasburg (9-0) with a 1.54 ERA after 70.1 IP in which he's now allowed 45 hits, 13 runs, 12 ER, 6 doubles, 1 3B and 1 HR, holding opponents to a .182 AVG while striking out 135 batters and walking 13. Strasburg had a one-hitter through six tonight, and then gave up two singles and a 3-run blast in the seventh that pulled TCU close at 4-3, but the Aztec's ace recovered with 2 K's to end the inning and preserve the lead, which held up to improve SDSU to 28-15 on the season. (ed. note - "What size cap does Strasburg wear, so we can fit him for a Curly-W?")

According To...
Newark Star-Ledger sports writer Peter Botte, in a column today entitled, "Pelfrey will be under microscope today", the NY Mets' starter:
"...was made aware of Manager Jerry Manuel's comments about all of the Mets' starting rotation not named Johan Santana (being) in jeopardy of losing their spots without immediate improvement."
Let's send Pelfrey packing...The Nationals and the Mets meet at 1:00 pm EST from Citi Field, game two of a three game Washington stay in NY...
