DC's Own DC Daniel Cabrera At High Noon vs the Marlins...

Having spent the entirety of his 5-year major league career in the American League East with the Baltimore Orioles before today's regular season debut in a Washington Nationals' uniform, DC's 27-year-old, 6'9'', right-handed starter Daniel Cabrera has faced the Nationals' NL East rivals, the Florida Marlins, only once, losing back on June 20, 2006, but striking out 9 in 5.2 IP in which he allowed 8 hits, 6 runs, 3 HR's...

• Dan Uggla, Matt Treanor and Alfredo "The Amazing" Amezaga all took Cabrera deep, with Hanley Ramirez 1 for 5 with a run scored in the leadoff spot, and Cody Ross and Jeremy Hermida, 2 for 3 and 1 for 3, respectively.

Florida goes for the season opening sweep with Florida-native, 6'8'', 22-year-old right-hander Chris Volstad on the mound. Volstad avoided the Nationals last season in the 15 starts he made after debuting on July 6, 2008. Drafted in the 1st Round of the '05 Draft, Volstad was (31-26) in 81 starts and 1 relief appearance in 4 years in the Marlins' system before joining the rotation...in his 15 Major League starts last year...Volstad was (6-4) with 2.88 ERA and 52 K's in 84.1 IP.

DC Manager Manny Acta Is A Blogger...

Manny Acta's first post is up at his MASNsports.com blog welcoming Washington Nationals fans and asking for people to send questions...Acta talks about the Opening Day loss to the Marlins on Monday and the difference Adam Dunn makes in the Nationals' lineup...and apparently Mr. Acta's aware that some fans are already focused on a big event on the calendar this June...as Mr. Acta writes that there are several ways a team can acquire a No. 1 starter:

"You can always get a #1 in the free agent market or find him in the draft...LOL! I know what some of you guys are already thinking...Let's wait until we get closer to June to talk about it."

Manny Acta does know what I'm thinking...

The finale of the first series of the '09 season gets underway at 12:10 pm EST.
