The Nationals vs Livan Hernandez...

Livan Hernandez, the one-time Nationals' ace, is (5-1) in six starts against Washington since he was traded from DC to Arizona in exchange for pitchers Matt Chico and Garrett Mock back on August 7, 2006. In his last start for NY, on the road in LA, the 34-year-old soft-tossin' right-hander held the Dodgers to just 1 run on 7 hits in 7.0 IP, though he received no support and a no-decision when the Mets lost 2-1 on a tie-breaking RBI single off J.J. Putz in the eighth. The Mets are 5-3 in Hernandez's 8 '09 starts, 3-1 in May.

Craig Stammen's 2nd Start...

One of DC's four rookie starters, Craig Stammen, a 12th Round '05 pick out of the University of Dayton (OH), made his first major league start on May 21st against Pittsburgh in a 5-4 Nationals' win over the Pirates. Following his debut, Stammen told MLB.com's Bill Ladson, as quoted in an article entitled, "Galvanized Nats rally for comeback win", that having his former Syracuse Chiefs' teammate Josh Bard behind the plate really made a difference to the 25-year-old right hander, or as Mr. Stammen put it:

"'It was big. He did an awesome job,' Stammen said about Bard. 'It was like we were pitching in Syracuse because we had some success down there. We did the same thing tonight. He is a great catcher and I love throwing to him. It was very comforting.'"

Will Bard be back behind the plate for Stammen again tonight? I'll let you know when it's announced...

DC Starting Lineup...

  1. The Guzzzz - SS
  2. NIck "Two-Spot" Johnson - 1B
