Community Contributions from the DC Faithful:

In case you maybe fell asleep, ahem, or were otherwise engaged, check out Last Night's DC/LA GameThread to relive the Nationals' come-from-behind win over the Dodgers. LOUtheMETandNATSfan (ed. note - "We're in the process of converting him.") points out what he thinks were the highlights...of last night's Thread...

LOU: Just finished reading game thread from the:

UGLY / GREAT game for the Nats win in LaLa land.

Highlights of game thread (that put me in stitches):

  • Miss B’s jalepeno crackers (ed. note - "They did sound good.")
  • Doghouse’s food poisoning (ed. note - "Bad dogfood?")
  • Dukes & Dunn outfield rendition of the Bad News Bears (ed. note - "If they collided that could have been catastrophic..")
  • ROSCOE's mention of me sawing logs while the Nats make the comeback. (Lou's Note: "I was dreaming in CAPS LOCK the entire time Roscoe.")
  • CAPS LOCK is teh shizznit! (ed. note - "That's our secret, shh.")
  • "E’s" staying power (ed. note - "Who needs sleep.")
  • Love for Dibble (ed. note - "Who doesn't love Dibble?")
  • Nats win (ed. note - "Is there anything better?")

And superjuan, a fan of all things DC sports, took a shot at MASN's Defining Moments campaign, with his own entry in which he described last night's late night win over the previously-undefeated-at-home Dodgers:

"Can I do the MASN Nats commercial for this game?

"Top of the sixth. Nats are down 6-0 against the best team in baseball, at their stadium. Bam! The Hammer hits a homer to left. 6-1. Next inning, Guzzy sacs in a run and Kearns doubles in NJ and Zim. 6-4. Then the Nats turn it on… with 6 runs in the top of the 8th. BAM, it’s 10-6! Finally bottom of the ninth… time to end it right?! NO! He(ck) No! Let 'em get two runs to make things interestings… 11-9 final…. THAT'S NATS BASEBALL!"

(ed. note - "'Making Things Interesting' is a DC Closer Tradition, superjuan!!! Anyone up for actually trying to cut one of those Defining Moments skits? Maybe a preview Defining Moment about DC signing Strasburg, who completely changes the future of the franchise? For those of you who don't know, I actually auditioned for those and bombed extraordinarily, maybe the good folks at MASN can green screen my lackluster audition tape? MASN is looking for the next round of fans...? Who wants a shot?")

SMARTY START # SIX...

When tonight's starter, Shairon Martis was added to the Nationals' starting rotation back in late March, "Acting" DC GM Mike Rizzo heaped praise upon the Nationals' 22-year-old right-hander in describing to Washington Post writer Chico Harlan in an article entitled, "Martis, Zimmermann make Nats' rotation", why he thought the 6'1'', 175 lb native of Willemstad, Curacao wasn't more highly-regarded as a prospect:

Rizzo's predecessor in the GM's role, The Former DC GM Jim Bowden told MLB.com's Bill Ladson, (back on July 28th, 2006 when Martis was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for veteran left-hander Mike Stanton), that the Nationals were excited about adding the then-19-year-old prospect to the Nationals' system:

"We like Martis a lot. ... We like his arm," Bowden said. "He throws 91-95 miles per hour. We like his delivery. He is only 19 years old. He has a high ceiling. Certainly, it's down the road. It's a building for the future."

Does that mean the future is now? The Nationals acquired Martis just four days after they signed former Arizona Diamondbacks' Scouting Director Mike Rizzo as their own Assistant GM back in July of '06, so there's no telling if Mr. Rizzo's pointing to his head about this one.

STRASBURG FILES...

STRASBURG GAMETHREAD...

SDSU starter and projected No.1 pick in the '09 MLB Draft, Stephen Strasburg, starts his last home game of the season against the Air Force tonight at 9:00pm EST live from Tony Gwynn Stadium. Headed towards a contract showdown with the Washington Nationals, the 20-year-old right-handed, 100 mph+ fastballer, in his third year at San Diego State University, has put up a (10-0) record in 11 starts while posting a 1.38 ERA in 78.1 IP in which he's allowed 48 hits, 13 runs, 12 ER and 15 walks, while collecting 147 K's...

Strasburg's Final SDSU Home Start Is Available Live Online @ Goaztecs.com

MLB.com's Bill Ladson quoted an unnamed source within the Nationals' organization in a recent article entitled, "Strasburg sits atop Nats' Draft board", who said that, "He(Strasburg) is our top choice right now..." barring any unforseen obstacles, and the same source said that they expected, "...negotiations between the Nationals and Strasburg's advisor, Scott Boras to go down to the wire."

Washington Post writer Chico Harlan reported Wednesday night that the Nationals' "Acting" GM Mike Rizzo and Scott "Maximum" Boras were spotted sitting together in Boras' seats at Dodger Stadium...Wonder what they were talking about?

THE KIDS CALL IT THE STREAK!!! Will it continue?

Watch Ryan Zimmerman as he tries to hit in the 26th-straight game tonight.
