Last Night At Tropicana Field...

E: 60.

The Washington Nationals are padding their lead in the race to commit the most errors in the league, and Nick Johnson's first inning flub last night, his 7th of '09, gave DC 60 E's on the season, which at the end of the day Saturday had them 6 errors ahead of the second place Florida Marlins. Johnson's error didn't cost the Nationals any runs, and neither did the walk that followed to put two on with no outs, because DC starter Jordan Zimmermann struck out the side stranding two while collecting 3 of the 6 K's he'd record in his 5.0 innings on the mound, over which he allowed 4 hits, 2 BB and 1 ER on a HR by Carlos Pena that almost hit the right field scoreboard above the stands in Tropicana in Tropicana Field.

Pena's HR off Zimmermann pulled the Rays within a run at 2-1 DC in the fourh after Ryan Zimmerma--THE KIDS CALL HIM ZIM!! THE KIDS CALL HIM ZIM! had launched a solo shot in the first and knocked in a run with a groundout in the third to leave DC with a one-run lead I don't think anyone who knows anything about the '09 Nationals thought would hold up, just how far it would go astray, however, surprised some...

Jason Bergmann replaces Jordan Zimmermann to start the bottom of the sixth, 2-1 Nationals. Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena single and they both score on Ben Zobrist's three-run blast. 4-2 Rays. Bergmann walks Pat Burrell and Gabe Gross makes him pay, two-run HR, 6-2 Rays. Jesus Colome replaces Bergmann and allows two singles and an RBI-double, 7-2 Tampa. Bergmann allows 4 hits and 5 ER on a walk and 2 HR's without recording an out. Bergmann's now given up 13 hits, 11 ER and 5 HR's in 2.0 IP in 2 career outings against the Tampa Bay Rays.

• "Heat on Acta rises after report of firing". - Washington Times' writer Ben Goessling.

It's uncertain for how long, but at least for now, Manny Acta is still the Washington Nationals' manager.

• MLB Draft Analysis: "As always, money name of Scott Boras' game" Bill Shaikin, Los Angeles Times.

For Stephen Strasburg, and for Boras' mission to get him paid as if he were a free agent rather than a draft pick, baseball's most powerful agent has chosen "extraordinary."

•••VOTE ZIM UPDATE•••

Carolyn at We've Got Heart should be an inspiration to anyone who is committed to seeing Ryan Zimmerman voted into the starting spot at 3B in the 2009 All-Star game. The We've Got Heart blogger wrote about her own efforts to help get the Nationals' Face of the Franchise™ voted in in a recent post entitled, "Get the vote out for Zim":

"Although voting online is limited to 25 votes, voting by ballot is unlimited. Did you ever consider taking home a stack of ballots and bringing them back to the game the next time? I was able to punch about 150 ballots in 20 minutes the other night while watching some TV. 20 minutes! And not to brag, but my family has contributed to about 1500-2000 votes mostly done at home while watching TV! Don’t we all have an extra 20 minutes per day to give for Ryan?"

Someone mail me a box of ballots!!!
