Baseball America's Aaron Fitt ranked the Washington Nationals' '08 3rd Round pick, shortstop Danny Espinosa, as the "Best Defensive Infielder" in the Nationals' organization in his 1/6/09 edition of the, "Top 10 Prospects: Washington Nationals". In a May 9, 2009 article by Washington Post writer Jeff Nelson entitled, "Nats May Have Unearthed A Gem", "Acting" DC GM Mike Rizzo describes Espinosa's alma mater, Long Beach State University, as a "major league shortstop factory" and Mr. Rizzo, after acknowledging that Espinosa finds himself behind several shortstops in the Nationals' system (Cristian Guzman, Alberto Gonzalez and Ian Desmond), tells Mr. Nelson that Espinosa, a 22-year-old switch-hitter will "...some day...probably be the best that we have." Espinosa responded to all this hype by hitting .264 with a .375 OBP, .451 SLG, .826 OPS, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs, 33 RBI's and 12 stolen bases in 66 games and 235 at bats with the Class A Carolina League's Potomac Nationals, earning himself a spot in the MLB All-Star Futures Game which took place last week in St. Louis as part of the '09 MLB All-Star festivities. Danny Espinosa sat down with Anthony Masterson (Broadcast/Media Assistant with the Class-A Carolina League's Potomac Nationals) to talk about the experience of appearing in the Futures Game and Mr. Masterson's made the audio available to us for this week's Potomac Nationals Weekly Update:
