Potomac Nationals Weekly Update: Washington Nationals' Prospect Will Atwood Interview.

Badge_-_potomac_medium

Will Atwood, the Washington Nationals' 12th Round selection, 361st overall in 2008, is a 22-year-old, 6'2'' left-hander out of the University of South Carolina, who's currently pitching for DC's Class-A affiliate in the Carolina League, the Potomac Nationals, or P-Nats, as they're affectionately known...

Atwood started his '09 campaign by going (0-3) in April with an 11.65 ERA in 4 starts and 17.0 IP. However, according to Anthony Masterson, (Broadcast/Media Assistant with the Class-A Carolina League's Potomac Nationals), Atwood, who features, "...a great curveball-changeup combo to go along with a high-80s-low-90s fastball," has turned things around since struggling at the beginning of his first full pro season, posting a 2.93 ERA in his previous 15 starts before Wednesday's rough outing against the Frederick Keys. With 92 K's in 107.1 IP, Atwood ranks third in the Nationals' system in strikeouts, behind only Erik Arnesen (96 K's), who started the season at Potomac before being promoted to Double-A Harrisburg and P-Nats' right-hander Terrence Engels (108 K's), who jumped from the Hagerstown Suns to the P-Nats this past June, but recently ended up on the DL.

Anthony Masterson sat down with Will Atwood recently for another in a series of interviews Mr. Masterson has conducted with Nationals' prospects throughout the season:
