Nationals Daily Evolutions 12/3/10

Very sad news out of Chicago this morning. Cubs legend and broadcaster Ron Santo has passed away at the age of 70. Listening to Santo call an Albert Pujols homer BS while driving around to find the rental car place was a highlight of my trip to Chicago this past summer. --Al Yellon at bleedcubbieblue.com

White Sox land Adam Dunn for more than the crowd thought he would sign for, but it is most likely a deal that works out well for the White Sox and Dunn. --Dave Cameron from fangraphs.com

Many people believe holding onto Dunn was the smart thing to do. On the other hand it might have just been the safe thing to do. --Mike Henderson from nationalsdailynews.com

There are a couple sayings GMs live by, "Don't fall in love with your own players," and, "It is better to lose a player a year too soon than a year too late." It leaves people to wonder if the goodwill of the fan base does or should play a role in player movement. --Mark Zuckerman at natsinsider.com

Of course the fans aren't the only ones upset to see Dunn go as Zimmerman has some words for the front office. Mr. Rizzo you have some 'splainin' to do. --Ben Goessling from masnsports.com

Zimmerman would like to stay in D.C., but the franchise has to prove to him they want to win. --Adam Kilgore from washingtonpost.com

Adam Dunn was a one dimensional player and losing him might not be the worst thing that could happen. --Phil Wood at masnsports.com

It does however create one more hole that has to be filled at the Winter Meetings. --Bill Ladson from nationals.com

And with Adam Dunn gone every move the Nationals make will be watched that much closer. --Ben Goessling at masnsports.com

Nationals avoid arbitration with Flores and Gonzalez, but non-tender Neives, Wang, and Peralta. --Dave Nichols at natsnewsnetwork.com

Trade, develop, free agency the three ways teams can acquire players. With the current holes on the roster what players are closest to filling them from within. --Sue Dinem at nationalsprospects.com

Not all free agents are going to be instant wins. Teams sign guys like Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Johnny Gomes, and Troy Glaus that cause fans and media members to scratch their heads. Aaron Harang could be one of those signings that looks bad from the outset but works out in the end. --David Lint from flotn.com

With Dunn already in the fold and an offer from the Orioles on the table, Konerko has to act fast if he wishes to remain with the White Sox. --Rosenthal and Morosi at foxsports.com

We probably wouldn't be so depressed and at each other's throats if Strasburg hadn't thrown that stupid change-up to Domonic Brown. --Mark Zuckerman from natsinsider.com

Adam Dunn is off the table, but there are other power options out there for teams looking for a DH. --Joe Sheehan at si.com

I also think it was a little mean of MLB Network to have put together a defensive "highlights" package for Adam Dunn.
