As of yesterday's announcement of the current vote totals for the 2010 MLB All-Star Game, which is set to take place in Angel Stadium on July 13th 2010, 2009 Gold Glove and Silver Slugger-winning Nats' FOF Ryan Zimmerman was sixth in voting amongst National League third baseman...Sixth? Sixth? Zimmerman is not even included on the list provided by MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez in yesterday's article entitled, "Phillies dominate NL All-Star ballot", with the Braves' Chipper Jones, Giants' Pablo Sandoval, Brewers' Casey McGehee, the METS' DAVID WRIGHT? REALLY? and Placido Polanco all currently ahead of Ryan Zimmerman in the Major League Baseball popularity contest?
Zimmerman's .938 OPS is tops in the National League amongst third baseman. Zim and Polanco are both hitting .307, behind only McGehee. Zimmerman's 12 doubles are tied with McGehee for second in the NL behind only Jorge Cantu. Zimmerman's 8 HR's rank him behind only McGehee amongst those leading the All-Star vote, and he's third behind McGehee and Wright in those unimportant RBI's. Zim's .368 OBP ranks him fourth in the NL behind Chipper and McGehee. Zim's 22.6 UZR/150 trails only Chase Headley's 23.6. Zim's +1.8 WAR value is the best in the National League, his .957 fld% is second behind only Sandoval's (before last night's game) amongst the top vote getters...
Is Ryan Zimmerman the best third baseman in the National League? Should he be the NL's starting third baseman? Make your argument for Zimmerman below, and CAST YOUR VOTES HERE!!! Make things right Nats fans, VOTE ZIM FOR THE STARTING THIRD BASEMAN!!!
