Washington Nationals Promote Stephen Strasburg To Triple-AAA Syracuse.

New, 5 comments

Wow, who would've predicted this quick ascent? Everybody? Oh...Right on schedule after his 5th start for the Double-AA Harrisburg Senators, the Washington Nationals' '09 no.1 overall pick, 21-year-old right-hander Stephen Strasburg was promoted to Triple-AAA Syracuse this afternoon where he's expected to start on Friday against the Gwinnett Braves. Here's the official news from the Nats' Twitter account (@NatsTownNews):

"The Nationals today promoted Stephen Strasburg to Triple-A Syracuse. Strasburg is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut, Friday vs. Gwinnett."

After a shaky start this past Sunday against the Altoona Curve in which Strasburg gave up 6 hits, 3 walks and 4 runs, 3 earned, with 1 HBP and 4 K's in 4.2 IP over which he threw 79 pitches total, 49 for strikes, there was some speculation (most of it baseless) that the top pitching prospect in the Nats' system might make another start in Double-AA, but the Nationals instead decided to stick to a much-rumored plan that has him making 10 starts total in the minors, 5 in Double and 5 in Triple-AAA, before a June debut. Strasburg finishes his stint with the Harrisburg Senators with a (3-1) record in 5 starts and 22.0 IP over which he allowed 13 hits, 9 runs, 4 earned and 6 walks (2.45 BB/9) with 27 K's (11.05 K/9) collected.
