• From the Give to the Max official site:

"Give to the Max Day is a one-day fundraising event on November 9, 2011 that will unite local Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC communities to support nonprofits serving the area. Our goal is to get thousands of local residents to support their favorite regional charity, raising millions in donations and grants in just 24 hours!"

We received a note from Miriam's Kitchen (@MiriamsKitchen), (located at 2401 Virginia Avenue NW), introducing themselves, "Miriam's Kitchen provides free, homemade meals and high-quality support services to more than 4,000 homeless men and women each year in the Nation's Capitol, Washington, DC," and letting us know how our community can help out those helping others in the nation's capital.

As they note on their Give To The Max Day site (http://www.miriamskitchennews.org), "As part of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington, nonprofits large and small can earn their share of $125,000 in cash awards, including up to $25,000 for nonprofits with the most individual donors and the most money donated."

The Washington Nationals sent a press release out this afternoon entitled, "DREAM FOUNDATION TO JOIN AREA NONPROFITS FOR "GIVE TO THE MAX" DAY", encouraging Nationals fans, "... to visit http://give2max.razoo.com/story/Washington-Nationals-Dream-Foundation to donate money to the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation as part of 'Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington,' a one-day regional online fundraiser to help raise money for D.C.-area nonprofit organizations."

Not that you need a reward for making a donation, but the Nationals also note in the press release that, "In addition to helping support local nonprofits, those who donate to the Dream Foundation or any organization taking part in "Give to the Max Day" will receive access to discounted Nationals tickets for the 2012 season." Do what you can, pass it on via Twitter or Facebook if possible. Read about Miriam's Kitchen's efforts HERE. Read about the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation's work HERE. (ed. note - "Please note this is not a paid ad for either organization, or for Give to the Max Day organizers, just a former Montreal Expos fan's attempt to help give a little back to the community that's embraced him since 2005. If there's another nonprofit taking part you'd like to bring to everyone's attention, please do so in the comments section. Anyone working for a nonprofit who wants to let folks know about it, please do the same.")
