Quick Washington Nationals/B.J. Upton Chatter Update.

There were a few moments of tension last night when Tampa Bay pulled B.J. Upton from their lineup and simultaneously recalled outfielder Desmond Jennings from the minors. The entire baseball world stopped for a moment and waited, convinced by simple circumstance that something might have been brewing out in Kansas City where the Rays and Royals were facing off. No big news followed, unless you consider Reid Brignac's demotion big news.'s Ken Rosenthal said this afternoon on FOX, the Tampa Bay Rays' outfielder B.J. Upton, "...will be traded. You can trust me on that," and Rosenthal's assertion followed close on the heels of's Buster Olney's (@Buster_ESPN) report on Twitter that, "The interest in B.J. Upton is growing, with a couple of more teams calling. Maybe it's part of Pence/Beltran price-shopping comparison."

The reports of the Nationals' interest in Upton have gained enough traction that the beat writers from the nation's capital out in LA tonight covering the Nats' second game of three against the Dodgers asked the so-called Face of Washington's Franchise Ryan Zimmerman what he thought of the idea of the team acquiring Upton, who grew up near and played with and against Zimmerman when both were growing up in Virginia. "[Zimmerman] said he likes the team as is, but would endorse trade," Washington Post writer Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP) noted on Twitter. "B.J. is a very talented player," Zimmerman was quoted saying by's Bill Ladson (@washingnats), "'I think a lot of people still think he is going to improve a lot.'"

Of course after the reports by's Mr. Rosenthal and ESPN's Mr. Olney as well as's Jon Heyman (@SI_JonHeyman) who wrote on Twitter that the, "bj upton shopping more than just trial balloon of bro justin. .232 BA. but he'd help cleve, mil, atl, sf. nats also like," and the questions by the Nats beat writers, Yahoo!'s Jeff Passan wrote on Twitter that, "B.J. Upton trade not imminent. Rays plan on waiting until closer to deadline to assess viability this season. Could still keep him."

It's going to be a long week.
