• If you haven't been paying attention to what's going on with the Washington Nationals' unsigned 2011 Draft picks there's still time to catch up before tonight's 11:59:59 signing deadline. You'll notice however that there hasn't been much new news since June. Nats' GM Mike Rizzo's spoken often about the Nationals doing what they can to get all their picks signed, but the way things work at this point with everyone holding out until the the last possible moment before the deadline, there has been little in the way of new information about any of Washington's selections.

What news there has been has focused on 3rd Round pick Matt Purke, who was originally supposed to play in the Cape Cod League so the Nats could get a good read of his health, but decided to work out near his home in Texas instead. The Nationals had Purke to Nats Park for a game before the All-Star Break, he's taken a physical, the Nats were comfortable with what they saw, and according to Washington Post writer Adam Kilgore, Nats' GM Mike Rizzo was in Houston, Texas this weekend, "... in negotiations with Peter Vescovo the representative for Nationals' third-round draft choice Matt Purke." Outside of that it's just rumors, and there honestly aren't even many of them coming out of the Nats' leakproof front office, but the latest, from Baseball Prospectus and ESPN writer Kevin Goldstein (on the Twitter @Kevin_Goldstein) is that there are, "More and more RUMORS out there that the #Nationals will get [Anthony] Rendon, [Alex] Meyer AND Purke done; rumor No. 2 is big league deal for Purke."
