• One more roster note before tonight's game between the Nationals and Dodgers in Los Angeles, California's Dodger Stadium. In addition to the big news about Bryce Harper getting called up to make his MLB debut tomorrow night in LA, the Washington Nationals made the announcement this afternoon that they had placed 35-year-old right-handed reliever Brad Lidge on the 15-Day DL with what was described in the press release on the move as, "an abdominal wall strain." The veteran pitcher had also reportedly been dealing with vertigo in recent weeks, though he'd continued to pitch until now. MLB.com's Bill Ladson had reported on Twitter earlier today the he'd learned RHP Ryan Perry had been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, but it wasn't until after the story of Harper's impending MLB debut broke that the bullpen move was officially announced. With Drew Storen (elbow) also on the DL, Lidge and Henry Rodriguez had been sharing the closer's duties so far this season, but Lidge has struggled, with a 5.14 ERA, 5.75 FIP, seven walks (9.00 BB/9) and seven K's (9.00 BB/9) in seven innings pitched this season.
Perry, 25, was acquired from Detroit this winter in a deal for RHP Collin Balester. The 6'4'' right-hander is an '08 1st Round pick who has 149 games and 161.1 IP at the major league level on his resume over which he has a 4.07 ERA, a 4.28 FIP, 82 BB (4.57 BB/9) and 129 K's (7.20 K/9). In seven games and 8.0 IP this season at Triple-A Syracuse, Perry has two saves, a 2.25 ERA, 2.83 FIP, four walks (4.50 BB/9) and nine K's (10.13 K/9).
Washington Post writer Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP) wrote on Twitter tonight that Lidge, "... will see a specialist in Philly on Monday about his ab strain. He's frustrated."
