Alex Meyer, one of the Washington Nationals' 2011 1st Round picks (taken 23rd overall) has made 14 starts for the Class-A Hagerstown Suns so far this season in his first pro campaign. The 6'9'' right-hander is (6-3) with a 3.33 ERA, 2.66 FIP, 28 walks (3.58 BB/9), 77 K's (9.85 K/9) and a .218 BAA in 70.1 IP for the Nats' Low-A affiliate. Earlier this week, the Nationals announced via Twitter (@NationalsPR) that the 22-year-old starter was named the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Week after two strong outings. Meyer threw 6.0 shutout innings against the Hickory Crawdads on June 12th, allowing just two hits while walking one batter and striking out five and the right-hander then struck out nine in a 6/17 start against the West Virginia Power, throwing 5.0 IP in which he gave up three hits and two runs.
The Nationals announced this afternoon, again via Twitter (@NationalsPR) that the former University of Kentucky Wildcats' right-hander had been chose to represent the organization in this summer's edition of the All-Star Futures Game:

Meyer, who is on Twitter as well (@AlexMeyer17), then took to Twitter to express how excited he was for the opportunity to represent the organization at the showcase for the games top young prospects:

Saloman Manriquez represented Washington in 2006. Collin Balester pitched in the '07 ASFG. Shairon Martis pitched in the game in 2008. Current Nationals' second baseman Danny Espinosa represented the Nats' organization in 2009 and 2010 as part of the U.S. Team while OF Eury Perez played for the World squad in 2010. Both Brad Peacock and Bryce Harper participated in the 2011 edition of the Futures Game last year in Arizona.
