25-year-old Washington Nationals' '08 16th Round pick Tyler Moore was 3 for 19 (.158/.158/.158) with 7 K's in 12 games before he was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on May 29th when the Nats called backup catcher Jhonatan Solano up to the majors. When Solano's fellow backstop Carlos Maldonado had to be placed on the DL tonight with back issues that have kept him out of action, the Nationals announced that they'd recalled Moore, who'd returned to Triple-A Syracuse and gone 9 for 23 with four doubles and two home runs in six games. After 28 games and 100 at bats in his first year at Triple-A this season, Moore's posted a .310/.372/.660 line with six doubles and nine home runs.

Nationals' skipper Davey Johnson made the announcement that Moore would be returning in tonight's post game press conference following the Nats' 5-3 win over the New York Mets.

Maldonado's been struggling with what's been described as "strained lower back." Maldonado's now the third Nats' catcher to hit the DL this year following Wilson Ramos (torn ACL) and Sandy Leon (high ankle sprain). Before tonight's game, Davey Johnson told reporters, as tweeted by the Washington Times' Amanda Comak (@acomak), that Leon was actually heading to Florida soon to begin his rehab:
