A month of July in which 26-year-old Washington Nationals' right-hander Jordan Zimmermann was (4-0) in six starts with a 0.97 ERA, 2.08 FIP, four walks (0.97 BB/9) and 31 K's (7.54 K/9) in 37.0 IP over which he allowed 27 hits and five runs (4 ER) and one home run, has earned the Nats' '07 2nd Round pick the honor of being named MLB Pitcher of the Month for the Month of July.

As Major League Baseball noted (via Twitter @MLB_PR), Zimmermann is the third Nationals' starter to receive the monthly award this season:

The Nationals also released a quick note about what the three starters had accomplished in a press release which mentioned that, "Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez won the same award in April and May, respectively. Thus, this is the first time in 33 years, or since 1979, that three different pitchers from the same team have been named NL Pitcher of the Month in the same season. The Houston Astros turned the trick with four pitchers in the summer of 1979: Ken Forsh, Joe Niekro, Joaquin Andujar and J.R. Richard."
