• ALCS Game 6 - The Boston Red Sox took two of three from the Detroit Tigers in Comerica Park and took a 3-2 lead in the ALCS with a 4-3 win on Thursday night, so the AL East Champs have a chance to win their seven-game series with the defending American League Champions tonight in Fenway Park. Clay Buchholz, 29, received no decision in the Sox' 6-5 win in Game 2 of the ALCS. The right-hander gave up eight hits and five runs in 5 2/3 IP in which he struck out six. Max Scherzer, 29, matched up against Buchholz in that game, giving up just two hits, two walks and a run in 7 IP in which he struck out 13, but he received no decision in Boston's loss. The two starters match up again tonight in Game 6.
Scherzer told reporters that he looked forward to pitching in Fenway Park, where the right-hander is (1-2) with a 3.86 ERA in four career starts and 25 2/3 IP. "Fenway Park is a fun place to pitch in," Scherzer said. "You've got 38,000 fans all cheering against you. It's an intense atmosphere. But really, the dimensions are something that does actually come into play, just because you can feel that wall is right behind you. So there's just no room for error."
Buchholz agreed with his opponent on the mound tonight, telling reporters he looked forward to getting back home to Boston.
"[Fenway is] a special place," he said. "I've always liked pitching there. Obviously it's our home field so it's a little bit easier to say that. Out of all the parks I've pitched in, Fenway is a different type of place. And it's ‑‑ they'll let you know if you don't do the job. At the same time, if you do well, the fans there, they know the game and it's just a fun place to pitch. But definitely looking forward to getting back out there and giving it another run."
Game 6 starts at 8:00 pm EDT in Fenway Park.
