Nationals Announce Front Office Promotions In Wake Of Roy Clark's Departure For LA

The Washington Nationals announced a series of promotions this afternoon that reorganized the Nats' front office staff following Roy Clark's departure for a job as a national crosschecker with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Washington Nationals hired Roy Clark away from the Atlanta Braves' front office in the fall 2009. Over the next five years, in his role as Assistant GM, Clark helped Nats' GM Mike Rizzo conduct the draft and rebuild the Nationals' farm system. Clark's departure earlier this month for a gig with former Nationals' team President Stan Kasten in Los Angeles as the Dodgers' national crosschecker left an opening in the Nationals' front office that was filled today as the Nats announced a series of promotions within the organization.

Rizzo often credited Clark and Scouting Director Kris Kline with helping to rebuild the Nationals' minor league system. Both Kline and Nats' Director of Player Development Doug Harris were bumped up to Assistant GM status today in the series of moves announced in a press release from the Nationals:

"The Washington Nationals today promoted Doug Harris to Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Development, Kris Kline to Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Scouting Operations, Mark Scialabba to Director of Player Development, Mark Baca to National Supervisor, Jeff Zona to Special Assistant to the General Manager and Fred Costello to National Crosschecker."

Kline gets a promotion after five years as the Nationals' Scouting Director. Harris, hired in 2009 as part of Rizzo's overhaul of the Nationals' front office after becoming General Manager, spent the last four seasons as the Nationals Director of Player Development. Mark Scialabba, who takes over in that role, has been in organization since 2006. Scialabba spent the last five years as the Nats' Director of Minor League Operations.

Baca has been in the organization since 2008, when he started as an area scout. Zona has been in organization for seven seasons after starting as a crosschecker in 2006. Costello joined the Nationals as an area scout in 2010.
