Game 9 WPA: Battle of attrition. Nats 7, Sox 4.

This didn't match the quick pace of the opening series, as I shivered on the wind-swept upper deck while Haren improved but still wasn't great. Fortunately, the early-season offense stayed strong and the bullpen wobbled only slightly. And is it me, or does Haren run the bases at a brisk walk?

    • Again, this is improvement: Dan Haren (-10.9% pitching, +16.3% hitting) gives up 3 ER over 5 IP, with 5 Ks, no BBs, and 10 hits. He also doubles in the 4th and scores run on a WP to put the Nats ahead (+12.2%).
    • Pitch to Zim, PUNK! Ryan Zimmerman (+20.0%) gets walked twice, then comes up after an intentional walk, inspiring him to smack a two-run double for the eventual winning runs (+17.9%).
    • Ready: Tyler Clippard (+6.8%) throws a clean, 10-pitch, shutdown aeyth.
    • Grinders: Bryce Harper (+8.5%) is 2-3 with a pair of walks and 2 RBI. Adam LaRoche (+12.9%) is 1-3 with a walk, singling in a run for the lead in the first.
