Game 12 WPA: Even better than yesterday! Nats 0, ATL 9

Gio walked people, gave up bloops and blasts, and got things out of hand quickly. The bats were shut out for nearly 8 innings by the Platonic Form of league-average pitching. And, of course, Danny Espinosa got hurt. On the bright side, I had a pretty good sandwich at the ballpark. Mrs. Doghouse ate almost half of it, though. (*le sigh*)

  • Junk time came quick: Gio Gonzalez (-37.2%) digs what Bill and Ted would call "a totally deep hole," giving up 7 ER in 5 IP on 3 Ks, 3 BBs, 2 HRs, and 7H total.
  • Your WPA leaders: Jayson Werth (+1.8%) was 0-2 with a first-inning walk (+2.3%). Kurt Suzuki (+1.3%) was 2-3 with a pair of singles (+2.0%, +0.1%). Danny Espinosa (+1.2%) was 0-0 with a HBP.
  • More about my sandwich: Banh-mi meatball sub (+50% Lunch Percentage Added) with pork meatballs, cilantro, pickled vegetables, and a sweet sauce with noticeable heat (.400 on-taste percentage). A bit hard to manage (3 Napkins worse than average Messy Zone Rating). I shared it with Mrs D, so I didn't manage to get a Complete Lunch.
  • Blue was a bit off: I'm not bothering with the strike zone map, but let's just say Bill Welke gave Maholm some calls. Wouldn't have changed the outcome, but it's still annoying.

Yes, this was the best part of the game for me (it was ten bucks, but pretty hefty--get extra napkins):
