Game 30 WPA: Need more offense, guys. Nats 1, Bucs 3

Detwiler pitches like a #5, but still keeps it within reach. But the Nats just can't push more than one run across.

  • Not Acey: Ross Detwiler (-21.5%) goes 5+ IP, giving up 3 ER on 5 Ks and 2 BBs, with all the runs coming on dingers.
  • Unlikely heroes: No positive WPA except for Adam LaRoche (+5.8%), who is 2-3 with a walk and scored the Nats' only run, and Danny Espinosa (+4.8%) who is 1-3, singling in ALR (+9.3%).
  • Unclutch (if that existed): Denard Span (-10.7%) is 0-4 with 2 LOB but some nice plays in the field. Bryce Harper (-12.4%) is 1-4 but got picked off in the 6th (-5.9%) and struck out to end the 8th with runners corners, Nats down by 2 (-6.9%).
  • Get hot soon: Ryan Zimmerman (-8.3%) is 0-4 with 4 Ks.
  • Not quite a shutdown: Craig Stammen (+5.5%) leads off a good bullpen effort with two scoreless innings.
