Game 63 WPA: Countdown to 100 losses at 68. Nats 3, Rox 8

New, comments

Well, it was nice for a few innings, then Haren (and later Storen) suddenly couldn't keep it in the yard. At the same time, the Nats had trouble getting it out of the infield. On the whole, a poor showing.

This is your past, Nationals. Do you want it to be your future?

  • It got late early: Dan Haren (-22.4%) cruises through 4 IP, then melts down to the tune of 5 ER in the 5th, walking 1, fanning 6, but giving up 2 HR.
  • Nice start: Denard Span (+12.2%) doubles in a pair of runs in the 2nd for the early lead (+14.3%).
  • Patient: Jayson Werth (+6.1%) is 1-2 with a double and a pair of walks.
  • Rallier: Ian Desmond (+6.6%) is 1-3 with a walk and RBI single in the aeyth to get the Nats within two (+8.4%).
  • Meltdown: Drew Storen (-6.7%) does this in his inning of relief: single, HR, double, single, walk, GDP, K.
  • FAIL at the plate: Ryan Zimmerman (-10.1%) has a double, but his 5th-inning GDP (-7.2%) outweighs it. Kurt Suzuki is 0-4, although he scores after reaching on a FC. Adam LaRoche (-10.4%) must decide he doesn't want an apology, with 3 LOB.
