Error + Meatballs: Nathan Karns (-14.2% pitching, +6.8% hitting) goes 4.2 IP, giving up 3 R (2 ER) on a pair of bombs (watch the center-cut fastballs), one of which drives in an ROE (thanks, Zim). He strikes out 6 and only walks one, but one of his runners later scores to put him at 3 ER on the day. He also has a run-scoring, game-tying ROE in the 2nd (+9.9%).
- Not much of a fireman: Zach Duke (-28.1%) apparently doesn't do well without regular work, cashing in an inherited runner in the 5th and walking 3 (one intentional) in the 6th, getting only a single out and giving up 2 ER.
- Extremes: Ian Desmond (+15.8%) is 2-3 with a bunt single and a solo shot to get the Nats within 1 in the 6th (+11.1%).
- Not quite a shutdown: Erik Davis (+5.8%) has a pretty good debut, defusing Duke's jam and throwing 1.2 scoreless with a pair of Ks and no walks.
- Helping the least at the plate: Ryan Zimmerman (-10.3%) and Denard Span (-11.5%) go a combined 0-8.
