Game 128 WPA: AL "baseball" is silly. Nats 11, KC 10

It's Gio's turn to get picked up by his teammates, as the Nats battle back from an early 6-0 deficit. They work some long counts, cash in some bases-loaded runners, and even capitalize on some circus plays. Also, TANNER. BLANKING. ROARK.

  • Rough outing: Gio Gonzalez (-51.3%) gives up 6 ER (7 R) in 3.1 IP with 1 K and 3 BBs.
  • A bit of a rally: Bryce Harper (+25.5%) hits a two-out, bases-loaded, bases-clearing double to tie the game in the fourth (+27.0%). Jayson Werth (+12.6%) follows up by belting a two-out, two-run go ahead dinger into the fountain (+21.8%).
  • ROW + ARK = MVP: Tanner Roark (+34.0%) gets four more outs than Gio, giving up no runs over 4.2 IP with 2 K and 1 BB.
  • Meltdown: Drew Storen (-8.5) gives up a walk and a double in the 9th without getting an out and gets hooked.
  • Interesting: Rafael Soriano (-10.3%) somehow earns a shutdown by cashing in both of Storen's runners and one of his own, but getting a couple of nice catches behind him for the save.
  • Other goodness: Tyler Moore (+8.2%) is 3-5, as is Ian Desmond (+5.1%).
