Nats Nightly: Talking Nationals With District Sports Page And Federal Baseball

After the Nationals lost to the Mets 11-3 last night in the nation's capital, we got together to talk for the latest edition of the District Sports Page and Federal Baseball's Nats Nightly, our podcast in which we discuss each night's game and talk about all things Nationals.

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

Did Dan Haren guarantee he would remain in D.C. in his last two starts which saw him give up four runs early in Kansas City and then last just 2 2/3 last night in the nation's capital in a sort-of-must-win game against the Mets? Did all the talk about Bryce Harper's hustle have him trying to do too much in last night's game when he tried to stretch an eighth inning double into a triple while the Nationals trailed the Mets by nine runs? What about Davey Johnson saying yesterday that surgery to repair the damage to Harper's knee is still a possibility this offseason? Was that a surprise to you?

What about Adam LaRoche? Last night's 0 for 4 vs NY left him 0 for his last 16? How do you explain the drop-off from LaRoche's career year in 2012? And what should the Nationals do going forward?

What about Danny Espinosa? We learned this week in a report by the Washington Post's Adam Kilgore, that the Nationals did not plan on calling their opening day shortstop back up as part of the September callups when rosters expand today. What does the future hold for Espinosa? Will he have surgery on his shoulder? Should he? Does he have a shot at making the 2014 Nationals' roster?

We talked about all of those things and somehow crammed it into a 15 minute show after last night's loss to the New York Mets. It wasn't exactly a cheery discussion and there were a few rants involved. Check out the latest episode of the District Sports Page and Federal Baseball's Nats Nightly podcast with FBB's Doghouse calling in as well after taking in the latest defeat in person in Nationals Park:
