With 19 games remaining in the 2013 campaign including tonight's with the New York Mets, the defending (2012) NL East champion Washington Nationals announced their entire 2014 schedule this afternoon. Opening Day 2014? The Nationals vs the New York Mets in Citi Field on March 31, 2014. The Nats start their 2014 campaign with a three-game set in Flushing, Queens, NY then head home for their home opener against the Atlanta Braves on Friday April 4th. Seventeen of the Nationals' first 26 games next season will be contested in the nation's capital and they'll end the 2014 campaign with a six-game homestand against the Mets and Miami Marlins.
In addition to the annual Battle of the Beltways matchups with the Baltimore Orioles (July 7-8 in D.C. and July 9-10 in OPACY) Interleague play in 2014 feature matchups against the AL West. The LA Angels in April, Texas Rangers in May and Houston Astros in June will all visit Washington, D.C. and the Nationals will visit Houston, Oakland and Seattle with the May 9-11 series against the A's in Oakland marking the Nats first series in the O.Co Coliseum, the last major league park the Nationals haven't played in since returning to the nation's capital in 2005. .
The Nationals have two 10+-game homestands scheduled for 2014 starting with an 11-game stretch in Nationals Park against the St. Louis Cardinals, Angels and San Diego Padres between April 14-27th.
Washington's holiday schedule for 2014 includes Memorial Day (Monday, May 26 vs Miami) and Independence Day (Friday, July 4th vs the Chicago Cubs). As the Nationals' press release on the 2014 schedule notes, the Nationals play 17 home games in April, 14 in May, 11 in June, 11 in July, 16 in August and 12 in September including the final six games of the season.
