Washington Nationals' GM Mike Rizzo doesn't offer any "World Series or bust!"-ish headline grabbers or even go back to the "We want to play meaningful games in October"-ish sentiments of years gone by, but he does break down a winter's worth of moves made to improve on the 86-76 record the Nats posted last season. Doug Fister was added to the rotation. Jerry Blevins joined the bullpen. Nate McLouth bolstered the bench. Bryce Harper's healthy. Stephen Strasburg said he'll be 100% in Spring Training. Will they add another catcher? Another bench bat? Is some sort of deal brewing? There are rumors out there, but he doesn't address any of that. Check out what Rizzo had to say about the additions to the 'pen, rotation and bench.
With Spring Training approaching, the Nats' General Manager delivered a State of the Nationals Address this afternoon.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of Baseball Operations and General Manager, Mike Rizzo:
"Before you know it, catcher's mitts will be popping and bats will be cracking and the team that we've been building for the last few months will finally be together on the field." - Rizzo
