Game 18 WPA: "Less clowny" doesn't mean "not clowny at all." Nats 3, SCA 4

Double-N has a pretty good outing, but the Nats let him down with a critical error and too many stranded runners.

I hope there's something better than water in that. You deserved better.

What do these graphs mean (this is a link)?

  • Familiar hard luck: Jordan Zimmerman (-17.4%) gets a hard-luck loss, with 6 Ks, 2 BBs, 1 HBP and 1 ER over 7 IP--plus another 3 unearned runs thanks to a second-inning error from Anthony Rendon.
  • Hero/Goat: Danny Espinosa (-8.9%) gets the Nats on the board with a fifth-inning solo shot (+9.7%), but flies out in the 6th to end the inning with the bases-loaded (-11.7%).
  • WPA leader: Zach Walters (+14.5%) walks with one down in the 9th, then gets balked to third (+8.8%) after Denard Span (+9.8%) ROEs behind him.
  • Goat/Goat/Goat: Bryce Harper (-12.6%) is 0-3 with a GDP before exiting the game. Kevin Frandsen (-14.1%) gets the Nats within one but costs a crucial out with an RBI groundout in the 9th (-12.0%). Jayson Werth (-17.0%) fans on three pitches with a runner on third to end the game (-15.3%).

Also, Rendon wuz robbed

Rendon "struck out" in the 6th with runners 1st/2nd and one out.

It wouldn't be quite so annoying if the pitch right before strike one hand't been closer to the zone and called a ball. He should have walked the bases loaded for Ian Desmond... who also walked.
