Game 81 WPA: Triumph of the B-team. Nats 7, Cubs 2

Treinen did well enough, the expected big bats batted big, but the bench came through with scrap and grit. And it actually helped win the game! Also, Detwiler was good.

  • Good enough: Blake Treinen (-0.7%) has been sharper, but only gives up 2 ER over 5 IP with 3 Ks and a walk.
  • [Rizzo points to head]: Last-minute pickup Kevin Frandsen (+14.4%) is 2-3 with a HBP and a two-out, RBI single to spark a 5th-inning rally (+12.3%). Nate McLouth (+8.9%) is 2-3 with a double and a HBP.
  • Expected heros: Adam LaRoche (+15.8%) is 2-5 with a first-inning solo shot (+10.8%). Wilson Ramos (+12.2%) hits the go-ahead-for-good solo bomb in the 4th (+14.4%).
  • Unexpected save: Ross Detwiler (+6.5% pitching, +0.1% hitting) throws 3 scoreless innings in relief for a shutdown. He also draws a walk and comes around to score.
