Game 137 WPA: I went to bed in the 5th. Nats 1, LA 4

Fister was squeezed, and the defense didn't help. Neither did the bats.

  • Squeezed, clowned: Doug Fister (-16.6%) gives up 4 runs in 5+ IP, beset by errors, a tight zone, and some bad BABIP luck with 2 Ks and 2 walks... also a few bad pitches.
  • Junk time: Bryce Harper (-3.2%) hits a two-out solo shot in the 7th (+2.6%), so at least there's that.
  • LVP: Ian Desmond (-8.7%) is 0-4 with 3 Ks, doing as well as he did because everyone was busy sharing negative WPA, too.

On the incompetence of Ted Barrett

It may have looked to you like Fister was getting absurdly squeezed last night. He was.

It's tough on a sinker-ball pitcher when the bottom 3 inches of the strike zone is a ball.  It's tough on any pitcher when not only do you not get the inside corner, you don't get the plate. Plus, make it inconsistent. Great jeorb, Ted!
