The AL champion Kansas City Royals outlasted the NL champion New York Mets in a fourteen-inning Game 1 of the 2015 World Series after battling back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Tonight, in Kauffman Stadium, the Royals and Mets meet in Game 2 with Johnny Cueto on the mound against Jacob deGrom at 8:00 PM EDT.

Cueto, 29, was (11-13) in 32 starts between Cincinnati and Kansas City this season with a 3.44 ERA, a 3.53 FIP, 46 walks (1.95 BB/9) and 176 Ks (7.47 K/9) in 212 IP over which the right-hander held opposing hitters to a combined .239/.288/.387 line.

In three postseason starts this Fall, before tonight's, the eight-year veteran was (1-1) with a 7.88 ERA and a .242/.329/.419 line against, with the ERA blown up by his outing in Game 3 of the ALCS with Toronto which saw the Blue Jays connect for six hits, four walks and eight earned runs in just two innings.

Cueto told reporters on Tuesday afternoon that he was already over the rough outing against the Jays.

"What happened in Toronto happened in Toronto," he said.

"That's over with. We're here in the World Series. I'm not thinking about that. Toronto is not here in the World Series. And now it's time to play baseball I'm going to stick to my routine and I won't change that."

deGrom, 27, went (14-8) in his second major league campaign, posting a 2.54 ERA, a 2.70 FIP, 38 walks (1.79 BB/9) and 205 Ks (9.66 K/9) in 191 innings over which he held opposing hitters to a .210/.255/.318 line.

In three postseason starts before tonight, two against the Los Angeles Dodgers and one against the Chicago Cubs, the righty went (3-0) with a 1.80 ERA and a .205/.256/.342 line against over 20 IP.

deGrom told reporters on Tuesday that he wasn't all that familiar with the Royals' lineup going into tonight's game.

"Honestly, I haven't looked at it that much," he said.

"I know they put the ball in play a lot. A team that strikes out a whole bunch. So it's kind of what we've been doing before in the past couple of series, try not to make -- look at it too early and kind of mess yourself up.

"So we're going to do the same thing that we've done, look at them the day before, and come up with a good game plan before I go out there."

Game 2 of the 111th World Series gets underway at just after 8:00 PM tonight in Kauffman Stadium.
