Game 61 WPA: Free fall. Nats lose 4-8.

NN didn't have it tonight. Again. The bats didn't get it done, but I suppose the defense was only minimally shaky and the runs bullpen gave up wouldn't have won the game anyhow. Whatever.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • At this rate, not even a QO: Jordan Zimmermann (-37.7%) only makes it through 3.1 IP, letting in 5 runs while fanning 4 and walking one.
  • One-man offense: Bryce Harper (+17.0%) doesn't get a lot of help, getting the Nats on the board with a 2nd-inning solo shot (+10.1%), driving in a second run with a 4th-inning single (+9.5%), and drawing a two-out, aeyth-inning walk (+0.2%).
  • You find that WPA! Taylor Hill (-6.7%) manages to eke out a meltdown in his 1.2 IP in relief by letting in a pair of runs.
  • Huh: Denard Span (+1.4%) actually manages a positive-WPA game on an 0-3 with a first-inning walk because the WPA ran out fast.
  • Pop off the bench in left field: Tyler Moore (+0.4%) joins the junk-timers with a two-out solo shot in the 7th with the game well out of hand (+0.7%). That makes 4 on the season, for those of you playing at home, which is halfway to 8.

Tonight's WPA brought to you by the superiority of electric lighting for both cartographic and anthropological research:
