Game 64 WPA: Hershey syrup hangover? Nats lose 1-6

Gio was hittable--when he was in the zone. The Nats stranded runners constantly--when they could be bothered to get on base.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Something of a contrast to yesterday: Gio Gonzalez (-28.0%) is not good at all, walking three, fanning one, and giving up five runs in 3.1 IP.
  • Worst of a bad bunch: Wilson Ramos (-9.4%) is 1-4 with a strikeout and an inning-ending, bases-loaded groundout when the Nats were only down one (-8.9%).
  • You'd think this was worse, but not according to WPA: Bryce Harper (-3.6%) is 0-4 with a walk and 7 (seven!) LOB, including a game-ending, bases-loaded, line-out DP (-3.0%).
  • Hit machine: Yunel Escobar (+2.0%) is 2-4 with the Nats' lone RBI.
  • Positive pitching performance: Taylor Hill (+0.4%) earns neither shutdown nor meltdown, but gets one more out than Gio, with 3 Ks, 3 walks, and 1 run.

Tonight's WPA brought to you by ill-advised training regimens:
