Game 58 WPA: Collapse. Nats lose 1-6

Scherzer deserved better, but the rest of the Nats, maybe Harper and Yuni excluded, sure didn't. I'm looking at you two in particular, Desmond and Thornton!

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Unearned: Max Scherzer (-3.1%) is in a little too long and unlucky, giving up one run in 6.2 IP with 7 Ks and a walk before giving up the go-behind run on an error.
  • Out the long way: Bryce Harper (+9.8%) is 2-4 with a double and a game-tying solo shot with two outs in the 4th (+14.0%).
  • Extremely unhelpful: Matt Thornton (-16.1%) struggles get the last out in the 7th, too, cashing in both inherited runners and one of his own to put the game out of reach and earn a richly deserved meltdown.
  • Faces of the franchise: Ryan Zimmerman (-6.6%) and Anthony Rendon (-16.5%) combine to go 0-8 with 3 LOB.
  • Trying: Yunel Escobar (+6.1%) is 2-4 with a double.
