Game 115 WPA: Improved loss. Nats lose 5-8.

Scherzer did not have a good outing. The bats finally woke up a little, but Max dug too big of a hole for them to fill.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • That fell apart quickly: Max Scherzer (-43.0%) couldn't manage his contact tonight, giving up 6 runs in 3 IP with 3 Ks and no walks. It was the losing margin.
  • Hit machine: Bryce Harper (+19.2%) got back into a groove, driving in the Nats' first run with a sac fly in the first (+2.9%), then adding 3 more with two down in the 5th with a nearly-game-tying bomb (+19.9%).
  • Atonement: Doug Fister (+4.9% pitching, +6.0% hitting) doesn't earn a shutdown for his two scoreless in relief, but his bunt single to put runners corners in the 5th should count for something.
  • WPA hates junk-timers: Danny Espinosa (-11.6%) is 1-4 with a meaningless solo shot in the 5th (+3.5%).
  • Be faster: Clint Robinson (+10.2%) is 2-2 with a double.
  • Meltdown: Matt Thornton (-10.2%) can't solve the 6th, getting only two outs and letting in a run.
