Game 127 WPA: Underperforming. Nats lose 3-4

Scherzer goes long but lets the other team do so, too. We see some offense, but the LOB are too much to win.

Okay, your underperformance is averaged over the season, not tonight. Tonight was okay.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Regressing the heck out of his HR/9: Max Scherzer (-18.1%) gives up an insurmountable 4 runs in 7 IP with 8 Ks and no walks, but two dingers allowed.
  • Coming up big(ish): Ian Desmond (+12.5%) is 2-4 with a temporarily-game-tying solo shot in the 2nd (+12.1%) and a single to lead off the 9th with the Nats behind by one (+13.2%).
  • Padding stats, but not being clutch (if that existed): Wilson Ramos (-18.6%) hits a solo shot to get the Nats within 2 in the 5th (+9.0%), but grounds out to strand the bases loaded in the 6th (-13.0%) and struck out with a RISP in the 9th (-13.0%).
  • Making the least of an opportunity: Clint Robinson flies out to end the game with a runner in scoring position (-13.3%).

Tonight's WPA brought to you by if this were an RPG, I would play it:
