Game 137 WPA: This one's on the pitchers. Nats lose.

Maxy didn't have it today, but neither did anyone in the pen, so... welp.

I'd run screaming from this one, too.

(What do these graphs mean?)

  • Also running out of gas: Max Scherzer (-32.5%) gives up 5 runs in 6 IP with 6 Ks and no walks, but 3 HRs allowed.
  • Horns up! Wilson Ramos (+13.6%) electrifies the crowed with a dramatic, go-ahead grand slam in the 4th (+30.0%).
  • ArrooooOOO! Jayson Werth (+5.7%) doubles in a run later in the 4th to double the Nats' lead to "not enough" (+10.0%).
  • Not a meltdown: Blake Treinen (-0.4%) is the 2nd-most-effective Nats reliever today, getting an out in the 7th but allowing a runner.
  • Still not a metldown (just barely): Felipe Rivero (-5.9%) walks a batter and records no outs after Treinen, missed a meltdown by 0.1%.
  • Definitely meltdowns: Casey Janssen (-22.3%) lets in an inherited runners to put the Nats behind, while Matt Thornton (-10.8%) lets in two more to put the game out of reach.
  • Today's WPA leader: Ian Desmond (+18.2%) is 2-3 with a walk.
  • I'm blame him, too, if he pitched today: Bryce Harper (-9.5%) is 0-4 with a walk, 3 Ks and 3 LOB.

Tonight's WPA brought to you by promises:
