NATIONAL HARBOR, MD. - According to multiple reports this afternoon the Washington Nationals and Chicago White Sox have agreed on a trade that will send the Nats’ top two pitching prospects, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez and 2016 1st Round pick Dane Dunning to the Sox in return for 28-year-old outfielder Adam Eaton. Though multiple sources are reporting the deal, there is nothing official right now, but there are a number of media outlets reporting the deal is all-but done.

Eaton, 28, put up a .284/.362/.428 29 doubles, nine triples and 14 home runs in a 6.0 fWAR campaign in his third season in Chicago in 2016, and the outfielder is locked up through 2019 at $4M in 2017, $6M in 2018 and $8.4M in 2019 with a club option for $9.5M in 2020 and another at $10.5M in 2021 or a $1.5M buyout in each of those last two seasons.

More info on the deal when it’s available.

Here’s what Nats’ GM Mike Rizzo had to say this week about Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez when he spoke to reporters about assessing the right-handers’ first taste of the majors last season:

“I thought their stuff was outstanding. They are still two of the brightest prospects in all of baseball. They’re guys that we’re going to count on both in 2017 and beyond and they’re elite prospects in the game right now and in the very near future, these elite prospects become viable major league commodities for us and I think those two guys are going to have good long careers.”

Both are now apparently White Sox’ prospects...

The move gives the Nationals the center fielder they were after this winter and allows them to shift Trea Turner back to shortstop.... More soon.
