Nationals' shortstop Danny Espinosa gets TMZ treatment after "gender reveal fail"

Danny Espinosa took a healthy swing at the pinata filled with colored confetti which was supposed to reveal the sex of the child he and his wife are expecting. It did not go as planned and the Washington Nationals' shortstop ended up on TMZ.

Things aren't going well for Danny Espinosa with a bat in his hands these days. Washington's 28-year-old shortstop went 0 for 3 with a K today, leaving him 0 for 17 with eight Ks so far this Spring, though he told reporters after the Nationals' win this afternoon that he wasn't "overly concerned" and thought his timing on fastballs was off right now.

It's early in Spring Training, it's a small sample size, etc. Nats' skipper Dusty Baker and hitting coach Rick Schu are reportedly working with Espinosa to get things going at the plate and there is plenty of time to sort things out before Opening Day.

Meanwhile, on the home front, Espinosa and his wife, who are expecting their first child, filmed what's (according to TMZ) known as a "gender reveal" recently, which is apparently a fun ceremony meant to reveal the sex of the baby expected to arrive in time for the home stretch in September.

Espinosa's swing was in fine form when he attacked the pinata which was supposed to explode, dropping confetti in either blue or pink to reveal the sex of the child. Here's what happened:

It was a nice swing by Espinosa, but not the expected result. In the end, it was revealed that the Espinosas are expecting a baby boy. We wish them all the best.

TMZ was all over this one. Check out their story on the gender reveal gone wrong HERE or through the link below:
