Grapefruit League GameThread: Nationals vs Mets from Space Coast Stadium

The Washington Nationals and New York Mets go at it again this afternoon after last night's 12-7 Nationals' win. This time they're in Space Coast Stadium in a game that's being broadcast on MASN, the MLB Network, MLB.tv and 106.7 the FAN in D.C., weather permitting.

Washington Nationals' hitters connected for thirteen hits, three of them home runs, and scored eleven runs total in what ended up a 12-7 win over the New York Mets last night in Port St. Lucie, Florida's Tradition Field.

This afternoon, the NL East rivals are in Viera, Florida's Space Coast Stadium where they meet up again in Grapefruit League action.

Joe Ross takes the mound for the Nats this afternoon in what will be his third start and fourth appearances of the Spring.

Ross, 22, gave up five hits, one a home run, and two walks in four innings last time out against the Houston Astros, striking out three batters before he was done for the day.

Over three Grapefruit League appearances thus far, Ross has allowed 12 hits, five runs, three earned and four walks while striking out eight in 8 ⅔ innings.

Ross will be backed up by a mix of expected everyday players and bench options this afternoon:

  1. Ben Revere - CF
  2. Anthony Rendon - 3B
  3. Bryce Harper - RF
  4. Jayson Werth - LF
  5. Clint Robinson - 1B
  6. Wilson Ramos - C
  7. Brendan Ryan - SS
  8. Jason Martinson - 2B
  9. Tony Campana - DH

On the mound for the Mets is 2011 3rd Round pick Logan Verrett, 25, who made 18 appearances in the majors last season, four of them for the Texas Rangers (who selected Verrett in the Rule 5 Draft) and 14 for New York after he was returned to the Mets (following a detour to Balitmore).

In 47 ⅔ innings overall, the right-hander was (1-2) with a 3.59 ERA, a 4.20 FIP, 15 walks (2.83 BB/9) and 39 Ks (7.36 K/9).

Matt Harvey was originally scheduled to pitch against the Nationals this afternoon, but instead pitched in a minor league game at this morning since there are concerns about the weather in Viera.
