Wire Taps: Lucas Giolito sent to Minor League camp; 2018 Washington Nationals; Nats take 9th in Forbes Most Valuable

In today's Wire Taps: The inevitable end to Lucas Giolito's spring, a look into the future, and yet another negative outlook on the Nats' 2016 season.

Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports

Wednesday was a bittersweet day in Natstown. Although the Nats enjoyed a big (and I mean big) win over the Yankees, the inevitable happened - Lucas Giolito was sent down to minor league camp. He'll be back, though.

Here's today's news.

The Nationals absolutely demolished the Yankees

In Wednesday's 13-0 win, Stephen Strasburg threw five innings, gave up six hits, struck out nine batters, and posted an insane pitches to strike ratio.

Nationals take 9th in most valuable franchise list
Forbes released its annual list of the most valuable baseball teams on Wednesday. The Nationals took ninth place, with a value of $1.3 billion (the Nats were valued at $1.28 billion last year).

Podcast: Talking Spring Training, Roster
The good folks over at The Nats Blog have a podcast (Nats Talk on the Go). In the latest edition, they discuss Stephen Strasburg and his amazing outing against the Yankees, Trea Turner vs Danny Espinosa, Michael A. Taylor's hot spring, and Cadbury Creme Eggs.

The Nats are poised to contend... in 2018, at least
No matter what happens this year, Turner, Giolito and Taylor present a promising young core for the foreseeable future. That means the projected demise of the organization could be very, very incorrect.

Lucas Giolito sent to minor league camp
To the surprise of almost nobody, the superprospect was sent down. We may not see him again until June... or later. (The continuing of his weekly baking is another issue).

SI's baseball preview projects... badly for the Nats
According to Tom Verducci, the team surrounding Bryce Harper will struggle to stay healthy and work together. What else is new?
